Zimbabwe forward Walter Musona stole the show with a brilliant brace as the Warriors secured a crucial 3-1 victory over Namibia in the AFCON 2026 group J qualifier game yesterday.
Both teams had failed to break the deadlock in the opening 45 minutes of the game at Orlando Stadium before Musona opened the scoring in the second half, slotting it home in the 50th minute.
Musona extended the Warriors ‘ lead sealing his brace from the penalty spot in the 61st minute after Namibia’s defender Baggio-Tuli Nashixwa handled the ball inside his own box. That was the last action from the Simba Bhora forward who was replaced by Prince Dube in the 81st minute.
The Young Africans Striker only took 8 minutes to register his name into the scoresheet, sealing off the game in the 89th minute. Namibia’s brave warriors pulled one back a minute later through substitute Godwin Eiseb but it wasnt enough to prevent Michael Nees from recording his second consecutive victory as Warriors coach.
The win has boosted Zimbabwe’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 AFCON tournament in Morocco. They now sit in second place in Group J, just two points behind leaders Cameroon, who secured a 1 nil victory over Kenya yesterday.
Zimbabwe will need atleast one point from their remaining matches to secure their place in the upcoming continental showpiece.
