The Bulawayo City Council, led by Mayor David Coltart, paid tribute to the late Sihlangu Dlodlo, Highlanders Football Club CEO, who passed away on Monday at his Nketa 9 home.
Speaking at his 310 Mahatshula South home where mourners are gathered, Mayor Coltart honored Dlodlo as an educationist and impactful figure in society.
“He was so close to the hearts of everyone, his record will perhaps get the most recognition but in my mind, it was his role as an educationist, I think that is the role that perhaps would not lift the deepest mark in our society, the most enduring contribution to our city, to our region”, said Mr. Coltart
Cowdray Park Ward 28 Councillor Ntandoyenkosi Ndlovu offered words of comfort to Dlodlo’s family, drawing on the teachings of Apostle Paul’s letter to the Corinthians.
“Mr. Dlodlo has finished his race like Apostle Paul who wrote a letter to Timothy by that time he wrote Timothy am going, I have played my role, I have fought a good fight, for now am going to meet my creator who is the judge of good deeds who is going to give me a crown like Mr. Dlodlo, he has played his role and finished it and now he is going to meet his creator. May the Lord be with you all the time”, said Mr Ndlovu.
Ward 14 Councillor Dumisani Netha praised Dlodlo’s dedication to reviving football clubs and vowed to continue his work with fellow councillors.
“Mr Dlodlo was a hero and it is a great loss to us.Mr Dlodlo’s wish was to revive clubs,he was always talking about reviving clubs,so I will see what to do and how we can revive clubs together with other councillors,so that our children live a proper life and abstain from misusing drugs,”said Mr Netha.
Family, relatives, and friends are still gathered in Mahatshula South to mourn Dlodlo, who will be laid to rest on Saturday, November 2, 2024.
Dlodlo’s legacy in Bulawayo stretches beyond Highlanders Football Club, touching both the sports and arts communities.
