The Bulawayo City Council has revived its Public Transport Policy after a prolonged delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, signing Service Level Agreements today with six licensed public transport operators, according to a statement from the Bulawayo City Council.
Initially approved in 2012, the policy aims to establish a safer, more efficient public transportation system in Bulawayo. Implementation had been postponed amid pandemic restrictions, but with consultations concluded, the city is now moving forward.
The agreements were signed with Bulawayo City Transit Trust, BUPTA Limited, Bulawayo West Transporters Private Limited, Tshova Mubaiwa Transport Co-Operative Company, and VUTA Taxis.
Under these agreements, operators will work from designated termini, coordinating with resident associations to promote order, safety, and accountability. The authority hopes this initiative will bring structure and reliability to Bulawayo’s public transport, enhancing service quality for residents.
