A 36-year-old man from Nyamandlovu, Ndumiso Ndlovu, appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Nomagugu Maphosa on Wednesday, facing charges of physically assaulting his mother after she refused to give him money.

The court heard that on 6 October 2024, Ndlovu demanded money from his mother, Grace Ncube. When she refused, he allegedly threatened her, stating he would beat her with a log if she didn’t comply.

Ndlovu is said to have then removed a log from the kraal, escalating the confrontation.

According to testimony, Ndlovu’s father, who witnessed the incident from inside the house, attempted to intervene but was reportedly pushed aside by Ndlovu. Ndlovu then allegedly beat and pushed his mother to the ground, where he continued kicking her several times.

Ndlovu denied the assault allegations, requesting the court to separate him from his parents, claiming they were “using him.”

He is set to appear in court on 15 November 2024 for sentencing.
