President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Chancellor of Gwanda State University, is currently presiding over the institution’s third graduation ceremony at the Epoch Mine Campus in Filabusi. The event, themed “Accelerating Industrialisation and Economic Transformation Through an Enlightened Skill Base, for the Attainment of Vision 2030,” celebrates the achievements of 126 graduates from two faculties.

The Faculty of Engineering and the Environment, with a total of 112 graduates, includes the Departments of Mining Engineering (66 graduates), Metallurgical Engineering (28 graduates), and Geomatics and Surveying (18 graduates). The Faculty of Natural Resources Management and Agriculture has 14 graduates, with seven each from the Departments of Animal Science and Crop Science.

Among the graduates is Panashe Ngirande, who earned a degree in Mining Engineering. As a female graduate in a traditionally male-dominated sector, Ngirande encouraged other women to pursue their dreams, saying,

“To my fellow female students that want to get into male-dominated industries, you don’t have to be afraid or be told that you can’t do it. What a man can do, females can also do.”

Ngirande’s inspiring message emphasized resilience and confidence: “You can do it. What a man can do, a female can also do.”

The ceremony underscores Gwanda State University’s commitment to producing skilled professionals who will play a vital role in Zimbabwe’s industrialization and the realization of Vision 2030.
