Alfred Ngwenya has been sentenced to seven years in prison for the stabbing a man to death over a dispute involving a commercial sex worker in Bulawayo in 2023.
The incident occurred on 15 November 2023 around 3:00 AM, when Ngwenya and the deceased clashed over an unidentified commercial sexworker. The altercation escalated, with Ngwenya stabbing the victim twice, once in the thigh and once in the back.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the 24-year-old fled the scene after realizing the victim’s severe injuries. The body was discovered about an hour later by a passerby, who alerted authorities. Ngwenya was later arrested in Silobela at an apostolic shrine, where he had gone for a cleansing ritual. Police found an AK-47 rifle in his possession, which was confiscated.
Ngwenya pleaded guilty to culpable homicide during his recent appearance before the Bulawayo High Court. He was sentenced to seven years in prison, with three years suspended on the condition of good behavior.
