Heavy rains and thunderstorms expected to hit five provinces

The Meteorological Department has issued a severe weather warning,cautioning citizens of impending heavy rains and thunderstorms in five provinces across the country starting today upto next week Tuesday.

According to the Meteorological Services Department, Matebeleland South, Midlands,Manicaland, Masvingo and Mashonaland East are expected to be affected by the adverse weather conditions.

The heavy rainfall exceeding 50mm is anticipated in some areas,accompanied by lightning and strong winds.

The Department has warned of potential flash flooding, strong winds, and fallen trees, which may pose a threat to both life and property. Additionally, lightning and hailstorms are anticipated countrywide, further worsening the already hazardous conditions.

Residents in the affected provinces are advised to exercise extreme caution and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. This includes avoiding travel to areas prone to flooding, parking cars under trees and staying indoors during heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
