National Treasury to Fund Anti-Drug Abuse Programs

The government has announced that the National Treasury will provide funding for nationwide anti-drug abuse programs.Minister of Skills, Audit and Development Professor Paul Mavima made the announcement during a post-cabinet briefing on Tuesday.

Addressing the journalists, Minister of Skills, Audit and Development Minister Professor Paul Mavima stated that the allocated funds will be primarily directed towards upgrading rehabilitation centers, recruiting qualified staff, and procuring necessary medications.

He said that this investment aims to strengthen the country’s capacity to address drug abuse and provide effective support for those struggling with addiction.

The government is also collaborating with international agencies to combat drug trafficking within and across its borders. Furthermore, the Medicines Control Authority has intensified its efforts to shut down non-compliant medical facilities, contributing to the broader strategy against drug misuse.

Recent statistics from the Zimbabwe Republic Police highlight the ongoing crackdown on drug-related activities. Between 1 September 2024, and 31 January 2025, police dismantled 79 drug bases and apprehended 9,527 individuals on drug-related charges.
